Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering and Seismic Design of Foundations in Haiti (14 PDH) - This program addresses the effects of soil deposits on the seismic loads on buildings and foundation in Haiti. Participants will be able to characterize soil deposits and their effects in modifying surface ground motions. Practical methods to assess the liquefaction potential of saturated soft soil deposits will be discussed along with procedures to design shallow reinforced concrete foundations. The application of the geotechnical site class maps developed recently by the National Laboratory of Public Works and the Mines and Energy Bureau of Haiti will be discussed in details. Several examples will be provided.
