In Memory of Professor George W. Housner
1910-2008

It is with great sadness that we have learned of the loss of a great legend and esteemed leader in the earthquake engineering community. Professor George W. Housner of the California Institute of Technology passed away on November 10, 2008.

Dr. Housner has been one of the strongest supporters of establishing the English version of the journal of Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Vibration. He truly believed in providing a forum to exchange technical information on earthquake engineering research between the research communities in China and the English speaking countries of the world. We hope that the progress of our journal has fulfilled one of his expectations.

We express our sincere condolences to his family members. Furthermore, we would like to openly acknowledge his unparalleled and defining contributions to the profession of earthquake engineering. For all of us who knew Professor Housner personally, his warm and approachable personality will always be remembered.
