Seismic Retrofitting Workshop

Sunday, September 17, 2006 | 8:00 am -5:00 pm
Registration begins at 7:30 am

Bay Bridge Room, Second Floor
Marriott San Mateo – San Mateo, CA

A team of researchers with MCEER has recently completed writing Seismic Retrofitting Manual for Highway Structures, Part I, Bridges for the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).  As a primer for the Fifth National Seismic Conference for Bridges and Highways, MCEER will conduct a condensed workshop on the subject.  Conference attendees will be able to participate in the workshop at a reduced registration fee.  In addition, all participants will receive a copy of the new FHWA Seismic Retrofitting Manual to keep.

Instruction will be geared toward the needs of DOT and consultant bridge design engineers.  Since states have various levels of concern about the potential for a damaging earthquake, the course will show how to mitigate risk no matter where in the country a bridge is located.  There will be an overview of the new retrofitting manual, with a description of the philosophy and basic analysis procedures, as well as some worked design examples.

There will be several workshop instructors to provide a varied and stimulating day.

The course will be taught by MCEER affiliates who are considered experts in the field.
