Mitigation: A Framework For Analysis

Date: Tuesday, February 13th, 2001
Time: 12:00 1:00 PM
Location:140 Ketter Hall, University at Buffalo

"Successful earthquake hazard mitigation policy formulation and implementation requires effective participation by all involved stakeholders. A successful process is facilitated when all key stakeholders are able to cope with the ambiguity caused by uncertainty and complexity, incorporate the principles of risk management into policy formulation, manage the conflicts in a system of multiple levels of government and stakeholder groups, and incorporate the social, technical, administrative, political, legal and economic factors which constrain the policy making system. The presentation is intended to provide a framework for understanding the complex process behind hazard mitigation policy and decision making."

This seminar will be webcast. Please visit this website: http://civil.eng.buffalo.edu/webcast/ for details.
