7th U.S. National Conference on Earthquake Engineering Adds Session on World Trade Center Disaster |
Preparations continue for the 7th U.S. National Conference on Earthquake Engineering, to be held July 21-25, 2002 at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel & Towers, Boston, Massachusetts. Several hundred abstracts were submitted for consideration, with over 600 authors subsequently invited to submit papers. The deadline for submittal of full papers to the EERI conference website was October 22.
Organizers for the conference have decided to include a special additional session on the September 11 disaster, focusing on the potential contributions of earthquake engineering knowledge to better understanding of structural vulnerability and damage. More details on this special session will be provided in the next announcement for the conference, which is due out in early January.
Among other activities being planned for the event are technical tours of local area engineering projects, including the Boston Central Artery/Tunnel project, a dinner cruise of Boston Harbor and visits to other sites and attractions of interest to conference participants and guests.
