Volume 17, Number 1

The group photo above was taken at the 2003 Annual Meeting in Boca Raton, Florida. The meeting was held in January, and over 60 researchers, industry partners, students, and staff joined together to strengthen channels of interaction and collaboration, review research progress from the past 12 months, and outline plans and specific activities for the year ahead. Articles about the annual meeting include: a review, Tri-Center Collaboration and New Research Initiatives, IAB Input Advances MCEER Programs, and SLC Activities.
This Bulletin issue also features an update on a review of the the 8th US-Japan Workshop on Earthquake Resistant Design of Lifeline Facilities and Countermeasures Against Liquefaction. Undergraduates with an interest in earthquake engineering can apply for this year's REU program. Graduate students are invited to apply to this year's Field Mission Fellowship Program-- the trip is to Italy. Regular columns on student activities, the Highway Project, the latest from our UB-MCEER-EERI seminar series, and recently published MCEER reports are also included.

The drawing above shows the dual shake table planned for UB's NEES facility,
