MCEER
welcomes three new members to its Strategic Partnerships Network. They are
York International of York, Pennsylvania, the Electric Power Research Institute
(EPRI), based in Palo Alto, California, and International Seismic Application
Technology (ISAT) of Buena Park, California.
York
International is the largest independent supplier of heating, ventilating,
air-conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC&R) equipment in the United States,
and is a leading provider of HVAC&R in the international marketplace.
The company has joined MCEER at the "Premier Partner" level.
The
Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) becomes MCEER's first association
partner. EPRI is an independent, nonprofit organization designed to manage
a broad public-private collaborative research program on behalf of the electric
utility industry, the industry's customers, and society at large. It was established
in 1973 by the U.S. electric utilities. Today EPRI provides a wide range of
products and services to more than 1000 energy-related organizations in 40
countries.
International
Seismic Application Technology (ISAT) is a worldwide supplier of seismic bracing
systems for nonstructural components and suspended utilities including plumbing,
mechanical piping and equipment, HVAC ducts, cable trays, conduit racks and
others. The company also publishes a 500-page reference manual, The ISAT Seismic
Design, Installation and Inspection Manual 3rd Edition, which serves as the
backbone of the company's services and solutions. ISAT also provides consulting
services for installations in new construction, retrofit and California's
SB-1953 hospital upgrades. Its comprehensive system is approved by California's
Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD). ISAT has joined
MCEER at the "Premier Partner" level.
As members of MCEER's Strategic Partnerships Network, representatives from each company join the Industry Advisory Board (IAB). As IAB members, they will aid MCEER leadership in shaping Center research, education and outreach programs.

MCEER and two members of its Strategic Partnerships Network were featured in an article in the October 2004 edition of Scientific American. The article, titled "Shock Absorbed" by Mark Fischetti, appeared in the publication's "Working Knowledge" section. Illustrating the merits of structural dampers and base isolation, the piece included quotes from MCEER deputy director Andre Filiatrault, Taylor Devices' CEO Doug Taylor, and Degenkolb Engineers' James Malley.
