International Workshop on Seismic Connection Details for Segmental Bridge Construction
Participants pose for a group photo at a workshop on seismic connection details for segmental bridge construction.
On July 22-24, 2009, an international group of experts in bridge engineering met to exchange information on the design of segmental bridges in regions of moderate to high seismicity for accelerated bridge construction (ABC). The aim was to gather information on current research and/or practice on connection details for these bridges from Japan, Taiwan, the State of Washington and other states in the U.S.
The participants presented research and projects in progress, of which several have been deployed in actual bridge construction projects on at least a trial basis. The presentations were followed by extensive discussion sessions to address a variety of issues at the intersection of modular precast concrete ABC and seismic analysis and design. Recommendations for future research were also discussed.
The workshop was co-chaired by George C. Lee, MCEER, University at Buffalo, and Phillip W. H. Yen, Federal Highway Administration. Proceedings are available from MCEER.
