UB and the ROSE School Renew Cooperative Agreement for Exchange and Collaboration through 2016

The University at Buffalo (UB) and the European School of Advanced Studies in Reduction of Seismic Risk (ROSE) in Pavia, Italy, recently renewed their successful cooperative agreement for a second five-year term, through October 1, 2016.

The agreement offers opportunities for students and faculty of both institutions to cooperate in research activities, seminars and conferences, exchange of technical data and publications, and student exchanges. The activities of the agreement are coordinated with the ROSE School through the Department of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering (CSEE) at UB.

Six graduate students from UB participated in the student exchange program during its first five years. Several ROSE School graduate students have also studied at UB, most notably Ms. Myrto Anagnostopoulou, who is currently Structural and Test Engineer for the Structural Engineering and Earthquake Simulation Laboratory (SEESL) at UB. Upon the recommendation of Professor Andre Filiatrault, CSEE Professor and a member of the ROSE School faculty, she came to the University at Buffalo to finish her master’s thesis as part of the student exchange program. Following her graduation in April 2009, she joined SEESL, where she is involved in the design, construction and testing of structural models in support of research-sponsored programs; as well as the seismic qualification of structural components and equipment for industrysponsored programs.

The ROSE School was founded in 2000, with the aim of providing higher-level education in the field of earthquake engineering. It is located at the Collegio Alessandro Volta, in Pavia, a historical town in northern Italy. For more information, visit
