Organized by the School of Engineering and Applied Science at Columbia University, the International Conference on Retrofitting of Structures was held in New York City from March 11 to 13, 1996. This three-day meeting attracted 130 participants from throughout the world to hear presentations from 22 invited speakers. Topics included:
Applications to bridge structures were a focus of the conference and the meeting concluded with a panel discussion of the state-of-the-art and state-of-practice of bridges and tunnels in New York City. A study tour of major bridges in New York City was conducted following the meeting. Guided by Professor Bieniek of Columbia University, the group visited several bridges by boat on the East River including the Brooklyn, Manhattan, Williamsburg and Queensboro bridges.
Sponsored by the National Science Foundation, the conference was co-sponsored by NCEER and Columbia University.
