Abstract: This report presents an analytical method for generating fragility curves and corresponding damage probability matrix for structures subject to earthquakes. In the proposed method, seismic hazards, local soil conditions, and nonlinear building behavior are systematically considered, and all the uncertainties in seismic, site, and structural parameters are taken into account. For an illustration, the proposed method is used to generate fragility curves and damage probability matrix for Smith Hall on the main campus of the University of Memphis, which is located close to the New Madrid seismic zone. The expected damage cost is also estimated based on the 1993 replacement value of the building.
