by Martin R. Button, Colman J. Cronin and Ronald Mayes,
In this report, a representative group of six bridges, with a range of input ground
motions that include and exclude the vertical component of motion, were analyzed to
determine when the vertical component can be safely ignored and when it should be included
in the design or analysis of highway bridges. A large body of additional information,
which is not included in the printed report, is available from this site. The appendices
are provided below in PDF format. These files are also
available
via ftp.
Once you have downloaded these files to your hard drive, you will need a copy of the
Adobe Acrobat reader to open them and read them. If you don't already have a copy of the
reader, you can get it here.![]()
| Appendix A: Response Ratios Computed from Response Spectrum Analyses of Bridges Numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6 (1,995kb.) | |
| This appendix contains the response ratios computed from response spectrum analyses for all six bridges. | |
| Appendix B: Response Ratios Computed from Response Spectrum Analyses for Varying Deck Stiffnesses and Foundation Fixity in Bridge Numbers 4 & 6 (1,981kb.) | |
| This appendix contains response ratios computed from response spectrum analysis for varying deck stiffnesses and foundation fixity in bridges 4 and 6. | |
| Appendix C: Mode Shapes with Modal Mass Participation Ratios Greater Than 10% for Bridge Numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6 (249kb.) | |
| The appendix contains the mode shapes for all six bridges. The mode number is given at the bottom of each page. The first figure for each bridge is the undeformed shape. | |
| Appendix D: SAP2000 Input Files (881kb.) | |
| This appendix contains the input files used in SAP2000 for all six bridges. Note that the input file for bridge 1 contains the data blocks for response spectrum analyses and the input file for bridge 4 contains the data blocks for time history analyses. | |
| Appendix E: ANSR-II Input File of Bridge 6 (182kb.) | |
| This appendix contains the input files used in ANSR-II for bridge 6. | |
