The University at Buffalo/MCEER Experimental Campus for Large Infrastructure Protection, Sustainability and Enhancement (ECLIPSE Campus) is an MCEER public-private initiative with Calspan Corporation, a global leader in independent aviation and transportation testing. The campus is located on 700 acres in Ashford, NY, about a 45-minute drive from UB's North Campus.
When completed, the ECLIPSE Campus will be home to multiple field stations that will enable large- and full-scale testing of new tools and technologies to intelligently renew our nation's infrastructure and protect it against a host of hazards, natural and man-made.
Today, ECLIPSE touts a Full-Scale Experimental Bridge Field Station (twin full-scale bridges) and explosives and ballistics test beds among its capabilities. Here, MCEER researchers examine the performance of bridge technologies and new design methods, subjecting them to severe vibration, extreme climate (heat & cold), impacts and blast. A Geological Hazards Field Station is in development, under the leadership of UB’s Department of Geology.
