Fourth US-Taiwan Bridge Engineering Workshop
The Fourth U.S.-Taiwan Bridge Engineering Workshop was held in Princeton, New Jersey at the Chauncey Conference Center on August 4-5, 2008. Organized by the Federal Highway Administration and MCEER, University at Buffalo, and hosted by the New Jersey Department of Transportation, this joint venture between Taiwan and the U.S. brought together 40 invited transportation engineers, researchers, and high level government officials to discuss areas of common interest. The workshop focused on:
- Multi-hazard mitigation (including earthquake, scour, fire...)
- Accelerated construction
- Advanced material for highway structures
In conjunction with the workshop, participants joined a technical boat tour that circled Manhattan Island for a unique perspective on many landmark structures. After the workshop, the Taiwan delegation was also treated to a tour of the New Jersey Turnpike Authority for a first hand look at an Intelligent Transportation System system in operation.
Previous meetings have alternated between the U.S. and Taiwan. The workshop was sponsored by Arora Associates, PC., Michael Baker Jr., Inc., Imbsen Consulting/OSMOS USA, and Modjeski and Masters, Inc. Proceedings will be available in the near future from MCEER.
