May 29-30, 2007 , The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Kowloon, Hong Kong, China

Part of a series that began in 2002, the 2007 ANCER Meeting will be held in Hong Kong, China, under the leadership of Prof. Jan-Ming Ko, President of ANCER. The meeting, which is sponsored by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, will focus on earthquake engineering for regions of moderate seismicity, and lessons learned from regions of strong seismicity. This meeting will also provide an opportunity for local as well as international experts to contribute to the development of Hong Kong's new seismic code.

Members of ANCER are committed to enhancing research, education and technology transfer to reduce seismic hazards

MCEER is one of eleven centers that are part of a unique, professional consortium called the Asian-Pacific Network of Centers for Earthquake Engineering Research (ANCER). ANCER was established in October 2001 to enhance research, education and technology transfer activities. Its vision is to broaden research and development impacts and mitigation practices through cooperative activities that can best be advanced on a center-to-center basis over a large geographical area.

ANCER's objectives are to coordinate limited resources in the respective countries to develop and implement, on a cooperative, center-to-center basis, innovative engineering methods and new enabling technologies. These methods and technologies will focused on efforts to design, construct, maintain, manage and renew the built environment to reduce seismic hazards.

To achieve these objectives, ANCER will pursue activities as follows:

The concept of a centers network was introduced during an international workshop organized by the Korea Earthquake Engineering Research Center (KEERC) in Seoul in 2000. Professor Sung-Pil Chang, director of KEERC, suggested developing a formal working relationship among the centers, and the concept evolved into the formation of ANCER.
