Base Isolation Systems for Seismic Protection of Power Transformers

MCEER, NCREE and Bridgestone Corporation in Tokyo, Japan collaborated on a project on seismic protection of transformer/bushing systems with base isolation. The research included:

  1. Design of new base isolation systems at the University of California, Irvine (UCI)
  2. 3D shaking table tests at NCREE; Two types of base isolation systems for these tests were manufactured and transported to Taiwan by Bridgestone from Japan
  3. Analytical modeling of the isolator and numerical simulation of its seismic performance at UCI
  4. Development of a simplified procedure for isolator design at UCI based on shaking table tests, analytical model and numerical simulation
