Location: N29.9514 W90.0769 (approximate)
This 28-story reinforced concrete frame building suffered extensive window damage as well as some damage to its asphalt shingle roof and loss of some rooftop fans. It has no basement and experienced no flooding. Three fourths of the glazing on the north facade curtain wall broke during the 2nd day of the storm. The curtain wall comprises 1/4-in tempered single-pane vision glass, and 1/4-in non-tempered single-pane black spandrel glass. The MCEER team examined several of the rooms on the north side with broken glass, and found several stones of pea gravel in each one, along with broken tempered glass. A glazing contractor told the MCEER team he had visited an adjacent building to the north that had had tar & gravel roofing with pea gravel, and that the gravel largely gone. The Hyatt Regency is operational, although it has no potable tap water, and currently hosts the FEMA disaster field office. It is located on the 500 block of Poydras St., New Orleans.
