Size:
249 certified beds
Status:
Closed. Basic remediation and environmental assessment underway in emergency core. Medical staff and administrators not on site.
Condition:
Mold, mildew, and water damage from flooding and from when water came back on. Approximately 20 percent of the windows in the emergency core appeared to have been broken, though not necessarily as a result of hurricane damage. Instead, many of the windows were broken apparently by medical staff that remained on site with patients after the power (and air conditioning) went off, in order to partially ventilate the otherwise sweltering building.
Evacuation:
Patients evacuated by boat and helicopter to various facilities.
Current Challenges:
As is the case with many New Orleans hospitals, Memorial is in the midst of determining the extent of its damage, while also continuing to locate and communicate with staff.
