This two-story unreinforced masonry building houses the US Probation Office, next door to the federal courthouse in Gulfport, Mississippi. The building envelope appears to be undamaged, with no glazing broken on the south or west facades. By September 8, electric power was on, in part because of the effort of GSA staff working with the local power company. According to GSA staff on site, storm surge caused approximately 0.7m of flooding inside the building. Figure 1 shows the west facade of the building; Figure 2, the south facade with the courthouse in the background. The building is located approximately 380 m from the Gulf shore.
The Cornell Internet Map Server generates GIS maps using the GPS coordinates of the location visited. The map server integrates existing data (such as municipal records) with the information obtained in the field by the research team to generate the GIS map. The triangles shown represent the site visited. More information can be obtained by clicking on the help link on the map itself.
