nIn addition to the dynamic effects described,
the impacting pier
leg has an initial velocity upon impact.
The impact velocity
can be approximated using the pseudo-velocity and assuming a rigid pier such that:

nConservatively
assuming the effects of the velocity upon impact and the work done by the dynamic loads
to occur in phase and
transfer into strain energy of the pier legs and foundation, the limiting deck-level velocity
